Floor Paint Traffic Paint
Floor paint is a special type of paint used to increase the durability of floors in both indoor and outdoor spaces, enhance their aesthetic appearance, and protect them from various external factors. It can be used on different floor types such as concrete, wood, and ceramic. Thanks to its formulas that are resistant to high traffic areas, abrasion, water, chemicals, and UV rays, it offers a long-lasting and practical solution. Floor paints, which have a wide range of applications from industrial facilities to residential buildings, also increase safety with their non-slip properties.

DryFiX Traffic Paint: High-Performance Polyurethane Floor Paint and Industrial Waterproofing System

DryFiX Traffic Paint is a single-component, solvent-based, aliphatic-modified special polyurethane resin-based advanced industrial floor coating and paint. It is explicitly formulated to provide maximum mechanical resistance against pedestrian, heavy commercial vehicle, and pallet truck/forklift traffic. By penetrating deeply into capillary voids on various rigid substrates such as concrete, asphalt, ceramics, wood, natural stone, and metal, it ensures excellent chemical and mechanical adhesion.

Unlike ordinary alkyd or acrylic resin-based road marking paints, it reacts with atmospheric moisture to achieve high-density cross-linking. This process creates an elastomeric film layer that is exceptionally hard yet flexible enough to tolerate structural movements. It bridges capillary cracks on the surface and forms a unique water and moisture barrier due to its hydrophobic matrix, thereby preventing rebar corrosion.

Superior Engineering Advantages of the System

  • Taber Abrasion and Traffic Resistance: The cured film layer exhibits outstanding Taber abrasion resistance against rubber tire friction and heavy static/dynamic loads. Its tensile pull-off strength (> 2.00 N/mm²) is much higher than the surface strength of the concrete itself, meaning in case of failure, the concrete will break, not the coating.
  • Excellent Water, Moisture, and Insulation Barrier: Thanks to its seamless structure and tightly cross-linked particles, it does not allow the passage of water molecules. It creates an impermeable barrier against surface water ponding and positive-side water pressure.
  • Advanced UV Resistance via Aliphatic Structure: Thanks to the aliphatic polyurethane bonds in its formulation, it is fully resistant to ultraviolet (UV) rays and oxidation. Even under prolonged sun exposure in open areas, it does not suffer from chalking, cracking, or color fading, maintaining its aesthetic appearance for years.
  • Broad-Spectrum Chemical Resistance: Provides full protection against aggressive substances frequently encountered in parking lots and industrial facilities, such as motor oil, hydraulic fluids, antifreeze, jet fuel, dilute acid/base solutions, de-icing salts, and industrial cleaning chemicals.
  • Rapid Curing and Operational Continuity: It completes its polymerization rapidly after application. It reaches its initial touch-dry state and opens to pedestrian traffic in as little as 2 hours. After a 7-day full cure process, it is ready for heavy vehicular traffic.

Main Application Areas and Specification Compliance

  • Indoor and outdoor parking lots, garages, auto maintenance services, and ramp floors.
  • Heavy industrial facilities, logistics warehouses, hangars, and production areas.
  • Airport aprons, taxiways, and helipads.
  • Bicycle paths, pedestrian walkways, public squares, and outdoor sports courts.
  • Emergency exit route markings, zone coloring, and safety lanes in factories compliant with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS / ISO 7010) standards.

Application Instructions and Technical Parameters

Surface Preparation and Substrate Conditions (Critical Requirements)

For the application to be long-lasting, surface preparation must comply with international standards.

  1. Concrete Quality: Newly poured concrete floors must be cured for at least 28 days. The compressive strength of the concrete must be a minimum of 25 N/mm², and the surface pull-off strength must be a minimum of 1.5 N/mm².
  2. Surface Cleaning: Cement laitance, oil, grease, old paint residues, curing compounds, and loose particles must be completely removed using shot-blasting, scarifying, or diamond grinding machines.
  3. Moisture and Dew Point: The substrate moisture content must be below 4% when measured with a Tramex/CM device. To eliminate the risk of condensation and prevent blistering in the paint film, the surface temperature must be at least +3°C above the calculated dew point. Relative humidity must not exceed 80%.
  4. Primer Application: * On standard floors, DryFiX DFP 800 Solvent-Based Epoxy Primer should be used to balance surface absorbency and provide an anti-dusting effect. If the surface is weak, has excessive capillary cracks, and will be exposed to heavy dynamic loads, DryFiX DFC 100 Solvent-Free Epoxy Primer must be used to saturate the substrate and lock in the adhesion.

Mixing and Thinning Ratios

Traffic Paint is a ready-to-use, single-component system. Before use, it must be homogenized for 3-4 minutes using a low-speed mixer (300-400 rpm) from the bottom of the pail to the surface without creating air bubbles. Only in outdoor applications or very hot weather, to balance the rapid flash-off of the solvent, it can be thinned strictly with cellulosic thinner (Max 0.5 Liters for an 18 kg pail; Max 0.15 Liters for a 5 kg pail). Synthetic or polyurethane thinners must absolutely not be used.

Application Methodology

  1. Equipment: Application should be done using a solvent-resistant synthetic epoxy roller, industrial brush, or Airless paint spraying machines (Pressure: 130-150 bar, Tip size: 0.015"-0.021") to ensure a fast and even Wet Film Thickness (WFT).
  2. Coat Applications: To achieve a long-lasting coating (DFT - Dry Film Thickness), a minimum of two coats must be applied. If used as a waterproofing barrier, it must be designed as a 3-coat application.
  3. Recoat Time: After the first coat is applied, wait between 2 to 4 hours depending on the ambient temperature. (When the finger touch test shows the paint does not transfer but feels slightly tacky, the second coat should be applied. For waiting times exceeding 24 hours, the surface must be sanded and wiped with an activator/solvent).

Supporting Systems and Maintenance

  • Sealer and Anti-Tire Mark Finish: In areas with heavy rubber friction such as auto repair shops and forklift paths, applying 1-2 coats of DryFiX Betolac Concrete Sealer as a topcoat over the polyurethane paint prevents tire marks from penetrating the surface and makes cleaning exceptionally easy.
  • Anti-Slip Property: In wet areas, production facilities, and inclined ramps where slip resistance is required, DryFiX ISG 6331 Anti-Slip Varnish can be applied after the painting process to achieve slip resistance ratings (R10-R12) complying with DIN 51130 standards.
  • Local Repair: If regional wear occurs due to heavy usage, the damaged area can simply be mechanically roughened and patched seamlessly with the same color code without needing to strip the entire floor, minimizing operational maintenance costs.
